Just for fun: Self Portraits

While taking photos of strawberries, I decided to experiment with some portrait photography as well. However, none of my roommates were home so I had to take photos of myself. Man is it hard to pose yourself and think of what it'll look like on camera! After taking a few with just a t-shirt on, I decided to spice things up and dress up like a cowboy. What do you think?

I don't know how I feel about these. For some reason, the hat looks like it was cut out and photoshopped onto pictures of you.

hahaha, now that you mention it, it totally does! maybe it from the lighting of the reflector. it's basically shining from the bottom right of the picture so maybe that's why.

Or maybe I'm just wearing it too loose.

I think the overall lighting looks pretty awesome. Although, when I went to comment, Kai messed it up because now when it look, it doesn't indeed look like the hat was photoshopped in.

I think the problem is a shallow dof. Your hat is in focus, but your head isn't. So the hat looks pasted on your head. The weird thing is that your shirt looks in focus, which would dash my dof theory, but it still looks weird. Perhaps your shutterspeed was too low and you moved your head a little. Not sure.

It definitely is a challenge to photograph yourself, I know, I've been participating in a 365 project on flickr. It's at http://www.flickr.com/photos/ericsbinaryworld/sets/72157616897325894/

Hmm... well, I was shooting at f/10 with 1/320sec so I feel like motion blur isn't the problem. Maybe the hat looks closer to the camera than my face since it's so wide, so it looks like it's on a different plane and not really on my head.
